Skeeball League: Week 3

The games started a little earlier than usual this week so we were only 2 deep for the first game. Me and my co-worker Jim somehow managed to pull out a win against a team of 6. I would call it an epic win but it was more luck than epic-ness. For our second game, we almost had a full team and somehow, we managed to lose in the 7th match of the best of 7 matches. Oh well, we're still 3-2 at this point. I honestly don't know where that puts us in the standings (apparently the guy who keeps up with the standings has some "issues" right now healthwise) but as long as we're going 50% every week and I'm drinking for cheap, it's all good. Not to mention the wings, lol.

Oh My Goodness Blake Griffin!

On the night of 1.30.2012, this happened...

Blake's dunk reminded me of Dwight Howard's Superman dunk but I appreciate Blake's more because his hand actually touches the rim.

As far as power and explosiveness, nobody's dunking like Blake Griffin is right now, including LeBron. But I still think this might be my favorite Blake Griffin dunk of all time.

Video: Gods'Illa - Sal's Pizzeria

"Can't rule the world if you never leave the streets"

"Said he was the ish, first album full of features"

Last.Night

These two songs pretty much sum itup. It felt like a Miami night but it was in DC. And I'm paying for it at the office right now, lol. Started off at the UAU Open Mic and from there it just got better, and better, and better...

If you're ever in DC on a Tuesday night, check out the UAU Open Mic (this is the flier for yesterday's show).

You, ME, and Ray Lewis NEED to do this Race...

The ToughMudder
  • 10-12 mile obstacle course. YES, 10-12 miles, not 2, 3, or 5. That distance is kind of ridiculous for civilians, lol.
  • Designed by Bri'ish Special Forces
  • 25 military style obstacles
I'm sure this fantastic race also comes with lots of blown out knees, ankles, vomit, and the occasional person passed-out from heat exhaustion (sounds like fun right?). My buddy sent this to me and I think I may just do it. I used to run cross country in high school but that was 3 miles so I may have to tag someone in after 3 or 4 miles and let them run and then get tagged back in around the 8 mile point, lol. I'm sure this race would be excruciatingly painful but also super fun.

Random thought... How, and where do you train for something like this???

P.S. - I mentioned Ray because he's the only person that would be amped up enough to actually get me to finish this thing, lol.

Skeeball League: Week 2

We went 1 for 1 in our 2 matches this week, putting us at 2-1 for the season. I'm assuming that puts us somewhere near the top of the standings considering there's 20 teams in the league. We would have gone 2-0 but on the last roll of our first match some woman managed to bring her team back from 60 points down by hitting the ever-so-elusive 100-point hole. Please tell me what the odds are that someone that's probably been drinking for 2 hours straight could come in on the last roll of the match down 60 points and nail the 100-point hole. Seriously, I'd like to know the odds on that.

The second match wasn't really close but it was still fun. We'll see what happens in Week 3. On another note, I'd like to identify some of my favorite team names from the league (there are obviously some very smart, witty, or funny people in this league).
  • We Met in Rehab
  • Ain't Nothing But A Skee Thing
  • Skeez Nuts
  • Skee Ball So Hard University (I'm not a Ravens fan but I thought this was awesome)
  • Honeybadger Don't Care (this is so irrelevant it's hilarious)
  • Feeling Friskee (you see what they did there, right)
  • That's What Skee Said

I wish this song was going to be on "God Forgives, I Don't"

I mentioned this song (and how Jay Rock somehow ended up with this beat) before and every time it comes up in my iTunes shuffle I think the same thing, "How in the world did he let this beat get away?!?!?!?!"

DOPE Video: BJ The Chicago Kid - Lady Lady

I'd heard of him a few times but never listened to any of the songs. After seeing this video/song, I'm gonna have to go find some of his work and check him out. The video is really good.

Skeeball League: Week 1

My skeeball league started this week (yes, skeeball). My team name, J. Este's Bestees (J. Dickinson Estee invented skeeball). We won by forfeit because the other team didn't show up. Fortunately, they still let us play a "match" with the organizers of the league. Honestly, I was too woozy off of $7 Miller Lite pitchers to remember if we won our "match" or not but I do remember our team having the highest scoring game up to that point in the evening. Next week should be interesting since we'll most likely not have a forfeited win and will have to muster all of our skeeball "skill" to be competitive. Meanwhile, none of us actually care if we win or lose, we just want to have fun playing the game.

Our record: 1-0.

Hate It or Love It? Amber Rose feat. Wiz Khalifa - FAME

My guess is a lot of people will hate on this before hearing it simply because it's Amber Rose. But after listening to it a few times it's a pretty good Top 40 type track and I can definitely say I've heard worse from more established and popular artists. I doubt she's going to give Katy Perry, Rihanna, Nikki Minaj, and Lady Gaga much competition but there's enough room (read: money) in this lane for a few more artists.

Well, it didn't take Lonnie long to respond...

Looks like Common read between the lines of "Stay Schemin" like the rest of us and responded to this.

Go ahead, press play, and skip to the 3:30 mark.

Track and "cover" found at nahright.com.

My guess is Common is just getting warmed-up and threw this out there to see if Drake will respond to him directly. This could get more interesting but might not. Why? Because of this... "diss me and you’ll never hear a reply for it" - Drake.

We'll see.

Video: Rick Ross (feat. Drake & French Montana) - Stay Schemin'

Do yourself a favor and go ahead and skip to Drake's verse (1:45)...

"You wasn't with me shootin' in the gym!" <-- Best (read: most hilarious) line so far this year in rap???

Like everyone else I'll assume that Drake threw at least one shot at Common in the verse, probably several. I just don't understand though, why Drake took to talking about weaponry and "running into" people. We all know this will come nowhere near that level. It could however, be a pretty decent "rap beef/battle" though I think Common would really hurt Drake's feelings if he decided to pull a "Bitch In You" on Drake like he did when he dropped that on Ice Cube back in the day.

This commercial makes me laugh every time I see it.

Especially the guy that yells, "that's terrible man!"

Double-post alert.

The Weeknd - Montreal

Been rocking this kinda heavy lately. Off his Echoes of Silence mixtape. I'm starting to feel like a lot of his music has a Sade vibe to it sonically. Maybe that's why I like a lot of the stuff I hear from him.

Someone explain to me how I should feel about this video

I want to laugh, but should I? Granny gettin' it though. I need to laugh. I'm conflicted, lol. Thanks to E for sending me this, lol.

A sad follow-up to a post from last January

Back in January I posted a video of a kid getting a beating by his uncle for posting a video on the InterWeb posing as a gang member. It was funny at the time but on December 14, the humor went away.

Apparently, the same kid from this video was found dead (shot to death) near his home in Louisiana. Who knows what really happened and whether or not it was gang-related but based on the story, it sure sounds like it could have been:
"Taylor’s mother, Kimberly Ward, told the newspaper that she kept strict tabs on her son, even making him stay on the sidewalk in eyesight of their home when he went outside. The night of the shooting, she said, Taylor received a text message from a friend at about 8 p.m. and went outside to chat. 'She said she called him back inside a few minutes later to find out what was going on, and he told her he was just talking and went back outside. A few minutes later, her daughter received a text message saying that Taylor had been shot, and then another saying he was dead'." (source: BlackAmericaWeb.com)
This is one of those situations where I'm sure people can argue that the beating that took place could have pushed this young man farther in the wrong direction and also people that can argue it should have helped him go in the right direction. I don't know what's the right perspective because kids respond to different types of discipline in different ways. Who knows what was going on in this young man's head. It's just a sad story all the way around it seems like it should have been so easy for something like this to be avoided. Maybe this story will help some other kid somewhere avoid the same situation.

Picture of the Day: Merry Christmas, from the Johnsons

I assume I'm late in seeing this (as usual) but I could not help but to post it. It's sad and hilarious at the same time, smh. Oh yeah, Happy New Year everyone!
