Going Off The Grid

A couple days ago my man Lance put up a blogpost about what things people would rather give up than their cellphones. It was an interesting post and I left a comment saying how I'd give up my cell before most of the items listed in his post but whether or not I had to give up my cell versus my computer would be the real tough decision.

Nowadays most of us are tethered to some sort of device. Whether it's an mp3 player/iPod, a computer, a cellphone, a tablet device or iPad, or something else that makes us lazier life easier, we've all got our tech-vices.

Starting tomorrow, I'm giving up one of mine completely, my computer. I sit at a computer all day most work days so many of you see rapid-fire blogposts, tweets, and email responses from me all day. But for the next 5 days, I will be without the InterWeb and the computer. Normally when this happens it's because I'm on a cruise but this time I'll be in St. Thomas for a few days (yeah I know, it sounds so horrible lol).

I think every year we should all take a week or a couple days "off" from technology. Not that long ago we didn't have all this technology integrated into our daily lives and somehow we survived. Somehow, our parents survived. Or at least that's what I keep telling myself when I realized I won't be on the InterNets for the next few days, lol.

WebNerd Alert: Conficker Worm Might 1-8-7 your C-P-U Tomorrow

In case you didn't see the special on 60 Minutes about the Conficker worm or your job/school hasn't sent out a bulletin warning you about it, tomorrow is the day that "experts" expect the Conficker worm/virus/does-it-really-matter-which-one-they-call-it to proceed to jumping off (read: eff some s--- up).

Some of you may have had fishy stuff going on with your FaceBook account lately and if your account started sending out random messages then you may have been hit with Conficker.

The likelihood of the entire InterWeb going down as the clock strikes midnight tonight (á la the Y2K fear that many had...smh) or at some point tomorrow is probably EXTREMELY unlikely. But the likelihood that you might somehow have gotten infected with Conficker and not known it is a little more likely. And since that's the case you have to consider that this thing could potentially scam you out of your precious, recession-fighting dollars. So you probably want to read Symantec's information on how to remove the Worm.

I will definitely be checking my system tomorrow to see if something has gone terribly, terribly wrong. Lord knows I don't want hackers to have access to all this pRon I have on this muddasugga!

Mac users, disregard everything you just read, pricks.

I <3 the Internet

I've been searching for about 3 weeks now for a way to fix my ipod nano. I wasn't sure what happened to it but iTunes just stopped recognizing it. I was upset about it but I didn't really care all that much because it still played the music that was on there and I had a few nice playlists. But in the back of my mind I couldn't help but fear what might happen if I didn't have any NEW music for the vacation I'm going on at the end of the month. It's one thing to have a few playlists you've been listening to for a couple months, but when I go on vacation I like to create a playlist specifically for that trip and put in on my ipod.

So after search the google for ways to do a hard reset and then thinking to myself: "I know somebody has to have put the solution up on youtube! I'm not the only person who has had this problem, I'm sure." I went on youtube and did a search for "hard reset ipod" and as nature would have it, I found the video below and now I have a restored, working ipod.

Thank you InterWeb and thank you daxmaximum.

P.S. - My next post is # 1,000!!!
