This is DEEP! Discussion of Manhood

Vis-á-vis a comparison between Barack Obama and 50 Cent.

Short documentary film by Byron Hurt.

This is a topic my buddies and I tend to touch on directly or indirectly during most of our conversations about hip-hop and/or the plight of the Black man. This is very thought-provoking and interesting.

SO much was said here. But I'm glad that the similarities between Barack and Curtis were brought out. Because at the end of the day, they're both black men "playing in a game that was not designed for them". And both men have power and intelligence. It's just that they choose to use their assets in different ways. Of course, those choices are directly determined by their backgrounds.
In pointing out similiarities, Ras Baracka said some really key things too. Because I too know black men, I don't see Curtis as that dominating, scary man. Curtis is afraid, becomes vulnerable, has to fight against evils, and loves his family just as much as the next black man. Just as much as Barack. Everybody's human.

Barack Obama by day and 50cent by night. Don't most black men fit that?

I agree that a lot of Black men fit that archetype. A lot of the guys that I know and am friends with have that "versatality" (we like to call it that).
