Daniel Snyder, Arrogant and Out-of-Touch

As a lifelong Redskins fan I understand the history behind the team's name and the logo and the fact that the term "Redskin" is not meant to be offensive. But sometimes, that's not necessarily the point. And I think a lot of people have realized that that time is close and may very well be now. Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins, is NOT one of those people. In fact, he seems to be an out-of-touch and arrogant prick and perhaps a world-class asshole.

Really Dan? THAT is how you choose to handle this topic? Maybe you've been worked up about it since it's been in the media recently. Maybe you just brazenly don't give a crap. But either way - as the team's owner - you have to be more aware/conscious than this don't you? Where's a solid PR person when this man needs one?

The first part of this (after the "we will never...") wasn't bad: "As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means". Yup, I feel you on that Dan. But at the same time, things change over time because they need to or it's just the right thing to do (Charles Ramsey style). This makes me wonder how he would handle this if the name offended Black folks (a ton of which are in the DMV and are big money spenders on Redskins paraphenalia, tickets, etc.).

I guess when you're as rich and wealthy as he is, you don't have to worry about those who are "beneath" you. Charles Ramsey would not agree with this bullshyt Dan is spewing. Responding to this issue in this way just makes him look like an arrogant, out-of-touch rich douchebag. It makes me shake my head that my favorite team has an owner who can be such a dumb-ass so often. You gotta take the good (loves his team and is willing to spend money) and the bad (this stupidness) with this guy.

The Obligatory Charles Ramsey Post

1. I understand this bama is funny but at the same time he is a pretty smart and well-adjusted guy at the same time.
2. Just because one speaks in an animated fashion and not the Kang's English (yes, Kangs), it does not mean that he is by any means an idiot.
3. This is the perfect opportunity for Black folks to take a stand and stop contributing to the same stereotypes they seek to eliminate (more on this later).

First, I want to say that the best part of this whole situation aside from him saying: "I could have done this a year ago... Not this hero stuff... the RIGHT thing" is the phone call he made to police. This is pretty much exactly what any bruh that has had a run-in or "expereience" with the laws would say on this call.


I'm sure we all knew this would blow up on the InterWeb and to a certain extent, rightfully so because it's funny. At the same time, I think that this was a great opportunity for Black folks to stand up for one of our own that looks like he is on some ole minstrel show stuff but in actuality, just did an amazingly great thing! And on top of that, is clearly smarter than the stereotype of his appearance and way of speaking would have one believe. Charles Ramsey is a smart dude! Let's not get it twisted. Aside from that, the brother appears to have a great set of morals as well. But Black people are so quick nowadays to meme-ify someone on Twitter that I think this all the good things about Charles might get lost. We (Black folks) always talk about how we don't want to be stereotyped and how people are quick to judge us based on our looks (and so on) and as soon as we have one of our own that is easily "fryable" online we jump to our phones and computers and get to goin' INNNNN!

This time though, was an opportunity to make a bigger statement than the cliché "Black man saves white woman is scared he will be the one getting locked up" or whatever other tired ass joke people want to put up on the InterWebs. This was an opportunity to say "You know what, even though you might think we're dumb and we don't do things the 'right way' because of how we talk or how we're dressed, we just destroyed that myth!" Instead, we contribute to the "coonification" of this man by going HAM on the internet. Clearly, missing the point and a golden opportunity. I'm not on a soapbox or anything because I think he's hilarious too! But I'm more proud of what he did and how he handled it in his unique style/way afterward and still came across as a very intelligent and conscious guy. I thought that was awesome, unlike the reaction of the Black side of the InterWeb.

Mixtape: Dexter's Lab by Dexter Darko

"Dexter Darko" is a cousin of one of my best friends from childhood and as a result we've become cool over the years and I love the fact that he's a bright young guy going to school but also doing something he has a true passion for, rapping. For all you aspiring rappers out there, yes it's fine to go to school but still find ways to pursue your hip-hop dreams (and still have a solid education to fall back on). All that aside, "Dexter" has sent me some tracks over the years that I've previewed and given some feedback on and some of them has been great and I've wanted to post but he asked that I not post until he is ready to release his material to the broader public. Makes sense. Well, now's that time! I just got an email from him about his mixtape, Dexter's Lab and I'd like to share it.

Neither Ray J nor Wale lack for confidence

I'll give Wale credit in that he does not lack for confidence in his rapping ability. This is a decent montage he has put together to promote his upcoming project though it does seem kind of odd having him and not MLK JR bust through the "I Have A Dream" thing toward the end. Sometimes I feel like these guys have to be completely non self-aware to come off as confident and cocky as they do (ie - Rick Ross) but I guess if you always felt like the underdog then you gotta let everybody know you're not just as good, you're better. Oh well.



Now onto this bama Ray-J. As much as I think Ray-J is a clown (and he IS), I still have to give him some credit for "Wait a Minute" (act like that joint didn't bump if you want) and for also finding a way to use his sister's fame to get himself rich. Granted, he's let his money and apparent access to trollops of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities (is that you Kim?) go to his head but yet-and-still, Ray-J seems to have a way to keep himself semi in the InterWeb news cycle. I mean, this bama was apparently sleeping with Whitney Houston for crying out loud!!! And for as much as I think this "I Hit It" song solidifies him as the number one lame/bama/clown/simp of all times, it's not that bad of a song. I mean, if you change the content of the song and take the dude whose testes apparently haven't dropped yet (Bobby Brackins needs to hit puberty before he puts that voice on another track. That's what you call pre-pubescent overcompensation rap right there) off the joint and replace him with someone that is a known rapper, you might actually have a decent radio song. The fact that he is still using the Kim K thing to keep himself relevant is lame. Shorty has moved on and I assume he has to but figured this might be a good way to try and make himself relevant again, especially if emotional a$$ Kanye-Tuda decided to respond. But my point was that Ray J is confident but his talent level is subpar if not mediocre. Wale - hate his personality/style or love it - has some serious talent. They both are super confident and cocky but at least one of them can back it up consistently and stay relevant something actually worthwhile like a talent.
