Neither Ray J nor Wale lack for confidence

I'll give Wale credit in that he does not lack for confidence in his rapping ability. This is a decent montage he has put together to promote his upcoming project though it does seem kind of odd having him and not MLK JR bust through the "I Have A Dream" thing toward the end. Sometimes I feel like these guys have to be completely non self-aware to come off as confident and cocky as they do (ie - Rick Ross) but I guess if you always felt like the underdog then you gotta let everybody know you're not just as good, you're better. Oh well.



Now onto this bama Ray-J. As much as I think Ray-J is a clown (and he IS), I still have to give him some credit for "Wait a Minute" (act like that joint didn't bump if you want) and for also finding a way to use his sister's fame to get himself rich. Granted, he's let his money and apparent access to trollops of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities (is that you Kim?) go to his head but yet-and-still, Ray-J seems to have a way to keep himself semi in the InterWeb news cycle. I mean, this bama was apparently sleeping with Whitney Houston for crying out loud!!! And for as much as I think this "I Hit It" song solidifies him as the number one lame/bama/clown/simp of all times, it's not that bad of a song. I mean, if you change the content of the song and take the dude whose testes apparently haven't dropped yet (Bobby Brackins needs to hit puberty before he puts that voice on another track. That's what you call pre-pubescent overcompensation rap right there) off the joint and replace him with someone that is a known rapper, you might actually have a decent radio song. The fact that he is still using the Kim K thing to keep himself relevant is lame. Shorty has moved on and I assume he has to but figured this might be a good way to try and make himself relevant again, especially if emotional a$$ Kanye-Tuda decided to respond. But my point was that Ray J is confident but his talent level is subpar if not mediocre. Wale - hate his personality/style or love it - has some serious talent. They both are super confident and cocky but at least one of them can back it up consistently and stay relevant something actually worthwhile like a talent.

No offense to RaVaughn but I feel like you could throw Kelly Rowland on this and I would not know the difference. This is a nice joint, I hope it makes it to mainstream radio considering the Wale feature. Wale doe!

I've been considering posting this since it's one of my favorite tracks off of the Folarin mixtape and also because Georgetown has been on a tear lately. I didn't want to jinx the Hoya's run but after that double-OT win last night, I gotta post this. Shot out to Otto Porter!


I'm a homer so I rooted for Georgetown and Maryland as a kid and teen respectively. I remember the days of Allen Iverson, Victor Page, Exree Hip, Steve Francis, and Juan Dixon very well. Georgetown has had a consistently good program just not the same level of talent with respect to other top programs so it's good to see them making this run. I think a number 2 NCAA tournament seed is in the works for Georgetown if they keep playing like this or maybe even a number 1 seed if the top teams keep losing like they have been this year. Speaking of, this has to be one of the best years of college basketball ever!

I liked this joint off first listen (read: before I saw the video) and think it could definitely be a club banger (not sure if it is already, ain't been to a club in a minute). I've been a Wale fan and just really started appreciating what Meek can do (dude is niiiiice). These cats have some potential and being a part of Ross's label right now is probably gonna help them with more widespread exposure which is a good look for them both (anybody seen Pill). Wale's "Attention Deficit album was pretty good work for a first-time release and his mixtapes are in my opinion some of the best mixtape releases over the last few years, especially the "Mixtape About Nothing".

Sidebar: Having signed Wale, Meek, Pill, Stalley, and Teedra Moses (not to mention his Triple C "bredren"), Ross looks like he's stacking up some good lyrical talent, a female and male singer for the hooks (Masspike & Teedra), and a manager with all the right connections (Diddy)...Potential, potential, potential...

Video: 4 A.M. - Wale feat. Black Cobain

When I first heard this track I actually thought the first verse was Wale. They both sound similar. I'm not sure whose verse I like better but overall I think this is a pretty good track. Also, I wonder if being affiliated with Rick Ross is getting Wale access to these types of beats because this definitely sounds like something Rick Ross would rap over. Wale and Black Cobain hold the beat down though.

I posted the song "2nd Time" by Brother Ali and Wale here quite some time ago. I also posted another Brother Ali song that I thought was pretty dope with Freeway called the Truth. But Ali's verse on the "The Truth" is nothing compared to Ali's verse on "2nd Time".

I listen to a lot of rappers that don't talk about much outside of cars, clothes, drugs, and hoes and that type of rap definitely has its place in my rotation (no I'm not ashamed to admit it) but I also have a place in my rotation for rap like what you're about to listen to below.

I'm not sure if it'll be more effective to post the transcription first or the song but I'll go ahead and post his verse from the song first then the transcription of his verse.

Unreleased joint that most definitely should have been released. No Johnny Gill. I wonder if this is a Kanye beat. Definitely one of the dopest beats I've heard Lupe over in a minute. I'm feeling the piano and the Wu-Tang "Cream" sample in this one.

Seriously, Lloyd sounds like a friggin' girl. With that said, why do I like his daggon songs so much! I guess it's me getting in touch with my feminine side (shut the fock up Dane). The Paid in Full rip on the beat and Lil "Verse Recycler's" verse pays nice homage to the original Eric B. and Rakim track.

Alfamega - Uh Huh

"This a Nitti beat!". Alfamega (who I first heard on TI's "Hurt" where he dropped a mean azz verse) comes with a club joint heavily co-signed by TIPPORD. It might be a good look just to get Alfamega on the map. Like Bloodraw, I've been feeling Alfamega since day one and I'm hoping some of my favorite up-and-coming artists start getting some shine like Ortiz, Drizzle, Bloodraw, and Alfamega. There are others but these are the first few I thought of off the top of my head.

NaS is getting warmer with this joint. I wasn't so sure about NaS's last song but I think he read my previous post and he's being a little more coherent with his messages. At least, it seems like he's moving in that direction.

Usher (feat. Jay-Z) - Best Thing


I think Jay out-performed Ursher on this track. But, I am a Jay-Z Stan (shot out to Laf). The beat is nice but Jay's appearance on the track makes it feel like it's a Jay-Z song featuring Ursher. Which is funny considering they only gave Jay about 6 bars at the beginning and another 6 bars at the end, LOL.
