What My Name Is?
It turns out that the call was from a guy who was looking for someone to teach a Microsoft Office course and he'd gotten word from a friend of mine that I was a "computer expert".
Sidebar: I have a degree in computer engineering so most people interpret this as if it means you know every single thing there is to know about computers. In reality, a computer engineer is much less of a computer expert and much more of a person who knows everything about computer hardware, software, input/output interfaces that nobody really cares enough to learn about. In other words, everything that you take for granted when it comes to your computer is what computer engineers are VERY learned at (ie - your operating system, your hard drive, your firewire port, your usb port, your RAM, your motherboard, your keyboard, etc.). I could go on but then I'd seem like more of an a-hole than I have already made myself sound like.
Since the guy who left me the message is under the impression that I am a computer expert I figured I'd roll with it. Not fake it but see just what the job entails. But after taking a second listen to the message I realized one very important/embarrassing thing. The caller addressed me in the message as "Mr. Boney".
To put this in perspective, a lot of people I went to college with called me BoneyMike. That nickname started in high school and when I went to college I was dumb enough to create the yahoo account - boneymike@yahoo.com - that I gave to everyone for the first 2 or 3 years I was in school. So the nickname stuck with me through college and even now some people still refer to me as Boney or BoneyMike, especially those who haven't seen me since college. With that said, you probably figured out that the friend who referred me to the guy who called was a friend from college. But more importantly, that friend KNOWS MY FULL NAME!
So why didn't he just give this guy my friggin' government name? I have no idea!
And this is my way of introducing one of my pet peeves. No grown man should introduce another grown man to someone else by his nickname. That shyt should be a man law. I don't care if we're on the basketball court or in the board room, don't introduce me by my nickname. Whether I am present or not does NOT make a difference. If not my full name, at least reference me by Mike.
I appreciate my friend's recommendation but at the same time I think it's embarrassingly unprofessional for someone to seek me out as BoneyMike for a position in which I might get paid for. You don't see people looking for Lil Pistol Starter to offer him a manager's position at Kaiser do you? And Quan-Quan is not going to get a call back about that marketing position if her girlfriend Michelle can't give the hiring manager Quan-Quan's full name, Quanita Johnson.
So to all my friends and business colleagues and associates, please do me a favor when you're doing me a favor and reference/introduce me by my full name. If you don't know it, call me first!
Really Lil Wayne? REALLY?
Content = OMG
Young Money - Every Girl
Young Money (emphasis on the "young") is taking "it" (read: misogyny) to a whole new level with this one. Shorty the Pimp would be proud. I know I listen to some hard-core hip-hop but this song just made me re-evaluate the possibility of what hip-hop in the future will be if Lil Wayne is the "latest-greatest..." Not only that, it made me re-evaluate some of the stuff I've listened to and loved in the past.
A couple thoughts after listening to this one...
Fellas no matter how much you want to like this joint just imagine what your mom would think if she heard you listening to this. I know I listen to some stuff I probably wouldn't want my mom to hear but if I slipped up and she heard this particular song I might get a beating. Seriously.
How could you (in your right mind) play this while any self-respecting woman was in the car with you?
How could any woman allow a dude to play this with her in his presence?
SMH. Why would they waste such a good beat on a song with this content? Idiots! This could have been one heck of a radio hit if they turned the content in the opposite direction. BAAHHHHHHHH, idiots!
Ok, I'm calm now.

Don't act like it's not a hot track even though you don't know half of what he's saying, LOL. I'm gonna jump out there early on this one and say I think it's dope!

Fox News is so full of it...
So now Fox News wants to jump on the post-racial bandwagon after they've played the elitist race card up until the point when a Black president is a reality? Give me a break! Ignorance permeates so much of the racial discourse on Fox News it's almost laughable.
Nevertheless, "my President is Black but his house is all white!" What it seems that some people don't understand is that when we say this it's not to say "eff people that aren't Black" or more specifically "eff white people", it's a way of saying that we are proud that someone who looks like US and can relate to us is able to be in Barack's position. Why is it that when Blacks start coming together and showing our pride everyone else seems to get scared, worried, or overly-analytical. All-of-a-sudden it's this big problem. No, it's not! We might have a Black President but in the big scheme of things we're still the have-nots. Racism is still alive. And we still have to work twice as hard. But Barack is a beacon of hope for many that in our lifetimes we will no longer be the have-nots and that racism will decline (if not end), and the playing field will be even. So when you hear "My President is Black" you might want to interpret that as "My President gives me HOPE!"
And for those who will undoubtedly say "But he's not just black..." it's obvious that they are missing the point.
And here's some previous (related) effery from Fox News vis-á-vis Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller.

Two words come to mind when I see this [not for virgin ears]...
Butt.Fuggin'!
Maybe it's just me but this fashion forward shyt needs to cease! Just because you have money and get some TV time does not mean you should leave the house looking like you got dressed in a room full of designer shyt while wearing a blindfold.

Next-Up: B.O.B. (Not Safe For Work)
B.o.B---Lonely People
Remember where you heard it first!
Another shyt-sammage from Ron Browz???
Yet-and-still I have yet to figure out why people enjoy any of these Ron Browz tracks other than the remix to Pop Champagne when he pops champagne "for Barack's campaign." Isn't it bad enough that Ron is trying to jack his style from someone (T-Pain) who jacked his style from someone (Roger Troutman, RIP)? Dude is literally like the poor man's T-Pain which says quite a bit.
Ron Browz has the unexpected effect of making me like T-Pain much more than I would otherwise. And I would even go so far as to say that enjoying T-Pain more has caused me to enjoy The Dream more (even though I have liked him from day one, unlike Teddy Pinned-her-azz-Down).
And just in case you're wondering who the hell Ron Browz is, here you go...
Dude's claim to fame up until the Pop Champagne joint was being the guy who produced Nas's song, Ether (which is why he yells "Ether boy" all the time). Ether was a SICK track undoubtedly but after releasing these songs I think Ron should stick behind the boards.
Not surprisingly, it looks like Cook Coke Crack is trying to jump on yet another trend (remember him on Khaled's bangers?) to make himself halfway relevant again. On the real, Fat Joe's last album was pretty decent I'm not gonna front. But it's so obvious that he tries to jump on everything that he thinks people think is hot for the moment. I guess he'll be making a rock album soon.
To my chagrin it looks like Ron Browz is going to continue dropping these lackluster club tracks. More power to him I guess. I'll just have to continue shaking my head every time I hear one of these sounds blasting through the club speakers. Blame it on the Goose...(LOL, now THAT is my you-know-what)
P.S. - The hottest thing on the InterWeb right now comes from none other than

These two are real pieces of work...
What's funny is that prior to the election (about a month or two away) I distinctly remember watching Dennis Miller on the Tonight Show being QUITE skeptical about Obama as the potential President and even taking a cheap shot at Michelle as well. Now he friggin' loves the guy. What a hypocritical douchebag!
And Bill O'Reilly's reputation precedes him at this point.
Regardless of what these two think most of us know that Black people have been echoing similar if not the exact same sentiments as Hov and Jay Jenkins for quite some time now. Albeit without the expletives in some cases I'm sure.
Kanye WTF?
*waits to see how many bamas (and I do mean BAMAS) jock this hairstyle*
I bet this will be the new mohawk.
