" Each of the ladies will compete in challenges testing poise and grace and will be judged on their ability to handle pressure in difficult situations. The winner of the contest will win a cash prize and the title of 'Charm School Queen.'"Monique says:
"These girls are outspoken and outrageous, but they need some focus and direction... I'm just the woman to give it to them. You will see a metamorphosis in these girls, I promise!"We'll definitely see. Well, I won't literally see it b/c I am NOT watching this shyt past the first episode most likely. But in general, we'll see.
On another note, some of you may know that both Monique and Queen Latifah are my PLUS-SIZED wifey/baby-momma candidates. But honestly, I would rather see the QUEEN doing this show than my Baltimore-bred boo-boo Monique. While I love her personality and sense of humor, I don't know that she is necessarily THE ONE we want teaching poise and etiquette. But maybe it's just me. Then again, she has just the right "edge" to her that will probably demand the respect of these girls and make them listen. But the QUEEN is not to be forgotten in her heyday (sp?)
WHO YOU CALLING A B&TCH...
PREACH!!!! That's HIP-HOP right there!
Last but not least, I was having a conversation with my friend Crystal last night and she mentioned that she felt all girls should be a debutante so that they can learn how to be a F*CKING LADY before they get older and make scallywag/skankerrific/a$$y/classless decisions like some of the girls on Flava of

Sounds like Crystal said what we all were thinking.
I get the idea for what Crystal was saying but is a debutant really the answer? I thought those things were just beauty pageants?
From what she told me, they teach women etiquette like to to sit, how to get out of a car without showing off the goodies (ala Beyoncé), and other important etiquette things that all girls should know.
I think that's important in a girl's maturity and development of classiness, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
Guys need the same shyt to learn how to be gentleman if you ask me. Especially the way dudes be acting nowadays.
"Guys need the same shyt to learn how to be gentleman if you ask me. Especially the way dudes be acting nowadays."
Yeah I feel you cause it's funny how many women accept subpar treatment from dudes because no one is doing any better. I get compliments on trying to be a gentleman constantly. I try to tell my sister not to let these dudes act however they want. "You gotta raise the standards with these trifling ni99a$!!!" LOL
What's even funnier is how some women seem to accept the subpar treatment and then don't pay any mind to guys who do/will treat them well...Then on top of that complain about how dudes have never treated them right.
Like you and most of our other friends, I think we are all gentleman and we get compliments on that. But it's really under-appreciated by most women it seems. There are lots of ladies out there who appreciate it; some who play the role like they appreciate it; and some who don't even care either way because they just want what they want.
From Crystal:
But just for clarification the cotillion (this is the where the debutantes are presented). Some people call them a debutante ball we call it a cotillion. If I am not mistaken the reason we call it a cotillion is because we raise money for these high school girls for college. They all receive scholarship money. Any who your friend has the wrong idea it is not a pageant. These girls are selected and then sponsored by someone in our chapter to be apart of the cotillion. There is a cotillion committee that reviews each applicant. They must submit an application packet grades must be in order, doing some type of useful community service and be planning to attend college. We try to limit the girls to 9-12 graders. And often place the 9&10 graders as junior debs...
These girls go through a series of workshops etiquette, self-esteem, financial, dress for success, independence sisterly relations and many more. Also these girls before the cotillion have a team of people putting together fundraisers and assisting these girls… These girls also have escorts the day of the cotillion and the escorts go through some classes but its mainly to teach them how to walk and where they walk the day of the cotillion. The day of the cotillion these girls have a dance with there father/grand-fathers (whom ever they choose to present them to “society”). This is also a competition so the young lady who raises the most money will receive the highest $$ scholarship.
Again it is way more than a pageant. We are trying to equip these young ladies with the tools they need to be successful women in the world. There are several workshops that the parents are required to attend. Again we try to teach them the importance of what being a lady means…
Oh ok, I was ignorant to the what is truly going on with the cotillion/debutant process and I appreciate Crystal taking the time to write out that explanation for me. Good Look Mike!!!
I feel ejumicated now :-) LOL
That's all Crystal. She actually tried to comment but was unsuccessful, so I decided to copy-and-paste from her email.
