LL and 50 doing more than just working on an album

Hmmmmnnn. This is interesting. Let's think about this for a second.

The Facts:

1. 50 is producing LL's next album.

2. LL took shots at Def Jam and Jay-Z during interviews at the VMAS:
"I think Def Jam needs to be a better promoter of hip-hop,...I think Jay-Z does a very good job ... of promoting Jay-Z."
3. Jay-Z long long ago took a shot at 50 Cent with the line "I'm about a dollar, what the f&ck is 50 Cent?"
3. 50 Cent is arguably as popular and *powerful/influential* now (if not more) than Jay-Z was back then.

4. LL never really speaks bad about anyone unless it's in a battle. He is one of the most proven battle rappers out there (see Canibus)

The Humor:

1. Wouldn't 50 and LL be the strongest rap tandem in history? These dudes could each, easily bench press Jay-Z. LMAO!

2. How much more vitamin water will 50 sell to LL's healthy 49 year-old a$$?

3. "You 38 and still rapping"...Jay-Z or LL?

4. Between LL and 50, whose ego had to take the backseat for this deal to work out?

5. If 50's smart, he'll start selling lip-balm and use LL to promote the shyt.

What I'm Thinking:

If 50 and LL continue to publicly call-out Def Jam (which right now equals calling out Jiggaman), then sooner or later, directly or subliminally, someone with ties to Def Jam will be dissing either 50 or LL or both. This could come in an interview, song, whatever. Will this turn into a Jay-Z versus 50 Cent/LL war? I doubt it. Even though I'd like to see a great HIP-HOP battle (meaning lyrically) between two artists like Jay-Z and LL, I doubt it would ever happen. But it could turn into a media battle between 50 Cent versus Def Jam.

The most interesting thing here is thought that maybe, just maybe, LL and Jay-Z would battle it out. LL has ended people's careers and Jay was 1/2 of the most famous hip-hop battle of all time. And with the ULTIMATE instigator/shit-talker (50 Cent) involved in all this, it could get pretty heated/ugly. And I didn't even want to mention this, but the thought of Nas/Jay-Z versus LL/50...Nah, I won't even go there.

It'll be interesting to see if this situation gets any larger than it is. We'll see. And if it does, I just hope it stays hip-hop and doesn't too far out-of-hand.

Don't forget you gotta throw Puff in the mix too cause you know him and Jay-Z are tough and 50 is trying to beef with him too. LOL.
You know, I didn't even know that LL left Def Jam. All this is new to me.

Yeah. But Puff runs from beef. We all know that. He ain't trying to get involved in nunna this stuff. I think it's a smart move for Puff to stay away from anything beef-related. Especially since he doesn't have a solid rapper who can take up for him. LOL.

And LL didn't leave Def Jam per se. He had a 10 album contract with them from back in the day (like Jay did with Rocafella) and once he released his 10th joint he just kept it moving and is exploring his options. He's not signed to anybody right now which is probably a smart move b/c he can go and work with Fiddy without having to worry about his label telling him he can't do it.

Ok...you know what...this is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of...OK not really, but still its rediculous that LL is now taking jabs at Jay...LMAO...I can't wait to see what will happen next in "hip hop"

see...i beg to differ. i think that 50 is some shyt. period. why the hell did he make it and mase didn't?!?! they slur their speech just the same and one's rhymes are just as hollow as the other. LL gets props for longevity. but, has he ever made my brain really work to decipher what he's talking about? no. have i nodded my head in accordance with his lyrics since "i need love"? no. does he always make me feel like my lips are undermoisturized? hell yeah. i don't think they (singularly) even compare to jay. i also think that jay is too much on his "grown man" to even pay it any attention. so will a battle of sorts ensue? maybe... but doubt it. i sure hope it doesn't. i'm tired of hip-hop operating like we're all in the f*cking recess school yard. get on... speak your peace... stay on by working hard and cultivating your craft... leave the gimics alone.. and holla.

LMAO! I agree with most of what you are saying, but contrary to what he have observed and think, the dude has some power in the hip-hop game. 50 that is. LL doesn't have the same power as 50 but he's respected.

Neither of them could really touch Jay lyrically, but LL is a seasoned battler (which I think it different from just rapping on a track about any old thing) and people seem to jump on 50's dyck whenever he starts talking shyt about people. So while people like me and you know that Jay is nicer lyrically, the mainstream may feel like Jay "lost" or was defeated if he and LL battle it out. It's not necessarily about reality, but perception nowadays. And that goes with battling, persona, etc.

"speak your peace... stay on by working hard and cultivating your craft." WERD!

Bone I heard that LL was still on Def Jam (I thought he re-signed but I wasn't gonna say) and that his next album was supposed to be a joint effort with Def Jam and G-Unit. Now that's word of mouth so don't quote me on that but it came from the radio. Personally I don't think it's a battle tactic for LL I think it's him knowing that he has the longest tenure in rap and shouldn't have to hold his tongue for ANYONE even if he is now the boss. Simple as that...he has an ego.
As far as the comment about rappers not acting like they are in recess....Hip Hop started as battle raps. It's the essence of the craft and the way A LOT of people get noticed before they make it big (JAY-Z, Biggie, Eminem, and DMX just to name a few). So I don't think what 50 does before each album is cool but I find no problem with a healthy rivalry in rap. The problem is that people get caught up in the so called thug lifestyle and want to take it out of the booth. Career wise LL is one of the greatest of all time and he gets the pass from a lot of dudes who don't like what he raps about because we know that LL is one of the dudes that brought battling to the mainstream and can hold his own. So you mean to tell me he is juvenile for that....I just can't agree with that one.

dane, you could very well be correct. I heard about him being out of his original def jam deal probably like 6 or 7 months ago. But why would he resign to Def Jam and then make negative comments about his label and his label's CEO? Just don't seem smart if he's actually still signed to them.

Dane, I agree with you about rivalry in hip-hop. BUT, rivalries should have some sort of legit substance to them. Not just one rapper picking on or making fun of someone to create a buzz. 50 had a legit beef with Ja Rule. Just about everyone else he beefed with was him calling them out on some jonin type shyt (see Lil Kim, Fat Joe, etc). Jay-Z called out Prodigy b/c Prodigy dissed him in an interview. These are rivalries/battles that had legit reasoning and also stayed on wax.

I think that alot of rappers don't really have the talent to battle face-to-face so they stay behind tracks to keep the beef safe for themselves.
